Feature development
Because our department is the first to be set up in Taiwan,as a professional designing department. That’s why we became the one that is a mixture of tradition and far sightedness.
Professional artistic atmosphere
Students here are exposed to the exclusively artistic atmosphere, And thus are more likely to be educated as independently thinking ones than those in other universities. What's more, with the richness of teaching experience and of the programs, we are certain to cultivate excellent generations.
Striking a balance between theory and practice
We emphasize both the theory and the practice, and the importance of the connection of the academic community and the industry.
Recently, faced with the multi media, and the advent of the uprising media communications and digital technology, and the governmental promotion for the Creative Cultural production , we plan programs which combine theory with methods, culture with contexts, environments with the people in them, the tradition with modern technology as well as visual aesthetics. That's the strategies we have adopted and have been applying to the material works (books, posters, and packaging), digital interface ( websites , animation), surroundings( exhibition, signs ) etc.
The courses put emphasis upon the importance of integrity of the libral arts and the digital technology, making sure to educate our students to be talents capable of putting theory into practice.

History
The visual communication design department was founded in 2000, which stems from the craft department in the oldest art college in Taiwan (1994), originally the Department of Industrial Art of the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (1957).
Our department is the first designing one ever established in Taiwan, having cultivated numerous talents in designing.
In 2004, we also began the graduate courses (including the Refresher courses) , which connects the basic designing with the further research; thus a sound and complete teaching system for designing has been created.
At present, we have 8 full time position teachers .Four of them are professors, and four associate professors .Three of them obtain PHD degree. The number of Part-time and professional teachers amounts to fifty. The diverse courses, excellent facilities, and great teachers make it a marvelous garden where the talents in visual designing are in bloom.
